L ANNOUNCES THE L†OS64-bit LINUX†BASED†OPERATING†SYSTEM

Entering its third year of development, L is proud to announce its upcoming Linux-based 64-bit Operating System codenamed L OS, with emphasis on performance, security, usability, and readiness for new hardware technologies.

L OS is based on the open source Linux kernel and is a joint effort development of a central core team and worldwide pool of about 11500 Linux programmers and developers and 37 key hardware manufacturers and researchers.

The project has been under development since May, 19th, 2001.Designed from ground up with exceptional help and input from the open source community, L OS will be a newly primed platform to fully take on performance-class hardware and software technologies such as PuRam Drives, Instant-On Technology, SuperBIOS, CacheFlow, upcoming high-bandwidth peripherals and 64-bit hardware.

Empowering users worldwide with a new powerful and unique tool for the development and deployment of creativity and productivity in all areas of business and personal entertainment, L OS provides a unique opportunity for an all-new creative platform, made of the input from users worldwide on behalf of the mission for better computing alternative.

L OS primary strategy is of adding new features, but first to solve long overdue common problems common to many popular operating systems. The central focus of the immense effort and research put into the development of L OS has primarily been on listen to users feedback regardless of their environment, in order to offer a new absolutely transparent operational platform that excels in being extremely lean, stable and fast. With full resident support for many upcoming new software and hardware technologies, L OS natively integrates extremely powerful memory management, processing and data caching code, while a built-in 64-bit x86 emulation engine, guarantees full compatibility with the world’s favorite MS Windowsô applications.

L OS’s core engineering strategy is creative problem solving instead of over bloated new features, which is currently the common trend of everyone else.

Equally, a large percentage of all research efforts has been one of gentle hardware resources exploitation, both maximizing the extreme speed of some of the current hardware architectures and precisely tuning the way each software affects the overall performance of the OS and how the resources hit each individual code, driver and overall general operation of the whole OS’ structure.

A superlative testing and validation process will guarantee that thorough analysis and benchmarking of each driver and interface written for L OS, maximizing the success of stability and compatibility across the entire spectrum of the Operating System’s architecture.

L OS builds on extremely advanced capabilities for successful hardware thermal control and monitoring, active CPU Throttling, Dynamic under & overcloking on all critical processing intensive components across hardware setups, and unique abilities for next-generation active and passive Phase-vapor and multi-stage water cooling architectures.

Focusing on being streamlined, extremely intuitive to use and with a visually rich navigation interface, L OS’ pioneering nature is matched with a strong security profile and a performance oriented personality.

Featuring a complete industry-leading handpicked application suite to address the needs of even the most demanding professional user, its open source nature guarantees a continuous non-obsolesce upgrade and enhancements path while being ready out-of-the-box to be used as the primary personal computing environment.

Initially distributed as multi-boot free of charge distribution on all upcoming L Laptop, Desktop, Workstation and Server products, L plans to incorporate its usersí feedback, the internet communityís suggestions, and its own visions and ideals into an ever evolving open source operation, cultivating the unique opportunity to take advantage of exciting new and upcoming performance oriented hardware and software technologies.

L OS will be distributed with a unique fully-fledged suite of software including everything a common user would need from web browsing to system utilities, an office suite, audio/video editing, authoring tools and a broad selection of imaging and multimedia productivity gear.

This software suite will be comparable to the hand picked application suite currently delivered for WinXP4L.

Like the OS itself, L OSí software suite will evolve with the needs of its users and expanding research of L’s team and the open source software developer’s community.

Flexibility and Performance

The L Operating System can be configured as a personal computer environment, a workstation, and a server machine, divided in two L Operating System solutions: L OS and L OS Server. Configured for optimum performance, L OS takes advantage of all the latest hardware and software breakthroughs.

L OS is optimized to incorporate L’s high performance PuRam drives and re-written RamDISK code thus outperforming hard drives with never before seen benchmarks in mainstream computing. Instant-Onô will be native to L OS, making the first truly bootless mainstream computing Operating System in history. Via Instant-Onô Technology L OS loads in a mere second or, just as fast a modern TV set or a PDA device. CacheFlowô mirroring Technologies will allow the OS and all I/O intensive operations to perform like never before, free of typical system bottlenecks and data bandwidth limitations. L OS is tunable, meaning it can be custom configurable for any system.

L OS can be adjusted to include nothing more than the specific drivers and services that are needed for each users exact needs. Musicians and Video Editors will appreciate the unique cleanness of an OS that is there to exclusively support their hardware and software requirements with near zero chance for problems due to conflicts with other unnecessary components.

Web designers and imaging Pros will shine in the productiveness of their work, streamlined for the exact tools they need. IT Professionals will rest assure that the legendary Linux stability and security is at their command in a more customizable way than ever before. By compiling software specifically for the users own hardware and software requirements, L OS cuts down on excess software, drivers and code, to provide a solution that is tailored for everyone’s exact needs.

Components may be added or removed from the operating system at any time as individual applets running in their own independent memory processes. Equally, extremely sophisticated logging and uninstall information with multiple stage system restore points, guarantee complete removal of applications with no leftovers filling up hard drive space and bringing down the systemís performance over the long haul.

L OS gives users the exact components that they need and want to work while each one will be a compact, simple, and secure module for true lightweight performance-oriented system architecture. Furthermore, L OS installs only the hardware drivers needed for each specific computer hardware. With a simplistic approach, computers will be easier to navigate, easier to understand, and capable to perform to incredible new heights.

Evolution of ëMinimalistí Technology

All software and computer technologies are in general at a continuously very early stage of development in the grand scheme of the tech world.

Thus everyone with a computer is a beta tester for everything they have inside the box, is an undeniable truth. believes in the evolution of technology. is all about pushing hardware and software to its limits in an effort to do its managing part in the evolution of technology itself.

Computer users want more functionality, higher speeds, ease of use, and less waiting. pushes for the seamless integration of technologies. At we have all seen software packages with thousands of options, 99% of which the normal user will never use.

Many software developers have been caught up with offering as many functions, options and application characteristics as possible to the point, they tend to forget exactly what they were supposed to be doing with the software in the first place. We get caught up spending more time trying to learn how to use an application or an operating system than using it.

Moreover with each new application version or operating system come even more challenges. In the end we all end up spending more time finding workarounds for problems we never get to fully understand than actually using computers for the intended purpose of solving problems. L OS strives to keep it simple in a world of evolving technology by ultimately creating an unique platform without thousands of services, libraries, and functionalities that the average user will never use, and in many cases never even know they are there.

L OS implements a simple system core, with services and applications that are abstracted to the user by means of a radically simple and intuitive graphical user interface.

The idea behind L OS is for the operating system to be as transparent as possible to the user. We believe that technology needs to evolve improve into a transparent piece of our everyday life, not the other way around.

Open Source = Constant Improvement

Open source prevents lock-in. Open source software (this includes free software, as defined by: http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/philosophy.html where the “free” means “freedom” rather than “free of cost”) by its nature allows constant improvements.

Anyone with an idea can implement it or improve upon it. This also explains Linux’s success and why its uniquely dynamic – literally dozens of thousands of developers worldwide make daily improvements to the kernel itself.

Opening the source code to the world and inviting everyone to contribute to a project means that proprietary extensions are extinct. In the world of Linux standards as defined by bodies like IEEE, W3C, and the Internet consortium are adhered to. Web browsers and office suites among others follow open standards for document sharing and service implementation.

The OpenOffice.org package (included on all computers), for example, follows an open standard, that any other office suite can implement. The exceptional Mozilla web browser follows HTML and Internet Consortium standards, without introducing incompatible and proprietary extensions.

Like Linux, L OS will remain open source in order to take advantage of constant improvements from all types of contributors all over the world.

User Interface

L OS will sport the same elegant user interface as developed on WinXP4L.

Countless thousands hours of research and testing have gone into the development of an interface that is easy to use, organized and extremely intuitive.

The same principle is applied to L OS giving the user the comfort of one interface across two independent operating systems when working in a dual-boot environment, on the computer of your choice.

The user interface will also be an evolving project, based on our ideas and research, and more importantly on the suggestions of the growing community of open source code users. We strive to keep it simple and insightful.

We endeavor away from the rigid interfaces that most of us are used to today and towards a more dynamic and enriching experience, without penalty on system performance and overall workflow.

Releases

L OS will be released in two flavors: L OS and L OS Server. A pre-alpha release of L OS will be included standard as a multi-boot free of charge distribution on all upcoming Laptop, Desktop, Workstation and Server products and upon reaching mature beta stages, it will be made largely available as a supported free download to the general market.
