The new Sony 4K SXRD video projector Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version

Digital CinemaSony is taking the lead in the rapidly emerging digital cinema market with the introduction of two new "4K" projectors that offer unprecedented features such as a 4096 x 2160 pixel resolution and a high contrast ratio.

One is a 10,000 ANSI lumen model (SRX-R110); the other is a 5,000 ANSI lumen model (SRX-R105).
Both use a Silicon X-tal Reflective Display (SXRD) imaging device that enables them to achieve nearly four times the pixel count of current HD displays. Complementing the projectors' outstanding pixel resolution is a high contrast ratio, allowing the new models to achieve high-quality images with rich and precise color tonal reproduction.

Sony first introduced SXRD technology in its QUALIA ™ 004 projector, a "2K" design targeted toward the higher-end consumer residential and custom installation markets. Now, the professional introduction of an SXRD-based design offers the digital cinema industry a clear alternative to existing projection technologies.

The FX1 is dead… Long live the FX7!

akihabaranews received a 6 pages fax from Sony, announcing the much anticipated FX7 -- in fact the VX2100 HD -- replacing the FX1.

What can we say about it? Well, according to Sony, the FX7 is 40% more efficient than the FX1, while being 25% smaller (145x166x322mm with a weight of 1.4kg for 1688cc vs. 2880cc for the FX1).
This camera is still a 1080i (HDV 1440x1080) with a 3 Clear Bit CMOS sensor and a 20x optical zoom.

It has HDMI, FireWire, D3 and D1 for connectors. The camera will be available in Japan on November 11th at a price of about 2 530 Euros...

Blu-Ray Cinema™ has introduced the Blu-Ray Cinema Player, a 1080p digital cinema player that features state of the art Professional Disc blue laser technology and connectivity options for the ultimate in reproduction quality with virtually any display.

The player features digital multi-channel audio output and digital video output via DVI-compatible HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface), and an option for broadcast HD-SDI or 2048 x 1556 output.

  "Inspired by a personal need to spend more time with the family during the long hours associated with the post-production process," said Blu-Ray Cinema Product Manager, Robert Sullivan, "the intention is to enable producers, directors, editors, etc. to view raw footage of ‘works in progress’ at any location with the potential of drastically increasing 'face-time' with family members. CHROME Imaging is partnering with Kodak to include their Display Manager System on the Matrix Compositing Digital Mastering System.

The KODAK Display Manager System consists of calibration hardware and proprietary software utilizing KODAK color science that adjusts electronic display devices to accurately emulate the looks of film.

Precise calibration helps ensure that collaborators looking at different displays are seeing identical images.

With the integration of the KODAK Display Manager, Matrix Compositing Systems users can work with full confidence on film material with an accurately calibrated display.

KODAK Display Manager generates a 3-D look-up table (LUT) based on the Matrix Compositing’s monitor.
When loaded in the system, the LUT allows users to simulate the look of projected print film.

Most displays --whether CRT or TFT-- and other HD to DVI solutions fail to deliver native pixel-for-pixel high-quality images. The reasons for this (see F.A.Q.) have to do with the quality and type of signal processing used.

The EDP100 is designed to work with Apple's HD Cinema Display.

Digital Cinema L'institut allemand démontre son nouveau sytème de sonorisation de salle de cinéma: D-Cinema .
D-Cinema est basé sur le principe de 'wave-field-synthesis", il utilise 96 haut parleurs pour offrir à chaque spectateur la mÍme expérience sonore quelle que soit sa place dans la salle.
"La différence de qualité est encore plus significative que lors du passage d'un son mono vers la stéréo" commente Prof. Karlheinz Brandenburg (AEMT).
